Winnie The Pooh is possibly one of the most loved characters ever to have featured in children’s literature.  Written by A.A. Milne and based on a teddy bear owned by his son Christopher Robin the stories were first published in 1926.

Many of Pooh Bear’s friends were also all based upon Christopher Robin’s toys; Piglet, a small and rather shy, nervous pig, Tigger, a bouncy tiger, Eeyore a morose Donkey, Kanga, a motherly kangaroo.  The characters of Owl and Rabbit were not based on toys.

Pooh is a rotund bear who is particularly fond if honey.  He is a bear of little brain but has an enormous heart and loves the company of his friends. He often encourages his friends to go on adventures with him, many of which involve searching for honey, however he has shown great bravery in rescuing his friend Piglet from a great flood.

The first book to be published was ‘Winnie-The-Pooh’ followed by ‘The House At Pooh Corner’.  Poems about Pooh also appeared in Milne’s books ‘When We Were Very Young’ and ‘Now We Are Six’. Since 1966 Disney have produced numerous films and TV shows based on the Winnie The Pooh stories.
