The Transformers cartoon series first appeared in 1984. Transformers are robots that can transform into vehicles and other objects. Originating from the planet Cybertron, the Transformers are divided into two tribes – the Autobots and the Decepticons.

The Autobots are the peaceful ‘goodies’ led by Optimus Prime, the Decepticons are the warlike ‘baddies’ lead by Megatron. There are many other factions in the transformers universe including Qnintessons, Predacons, Maximals, Predacons, Vehicons, Mini-Cons, Insecticons, Constructicons, Dinobots and the Heralds of Unicron

The Decepticons left their planet to come to earth with the intention of stripping planet Earth of its resources. Fighting the Autobots, they both crash landed on Prehistoric earth into a dormant volcano and remained there until 1984, when the volcano erupted, freeing them to continue their battle for supremacy.

The Transformers TV cartoons were originally created to promote the transformers range of toys. The TV series was hugely popular and there have been two Transformers movies, the animated ‘Transformers: The Movie’ in 1986 and the live action Transformers in 2007. They have also appeared in comics, books, CDs and as video games.
