SpongeBob Squarepants is a cartoon series that is massively popular all over the world.  In the UK it is shown on Nick Jr, and it is a silly and entertaining series set in a fantastical underwater world.

SpongeBob himself is a sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea in the Pacific Ocean, in the city of Bikini Bottom.  His octopus neighbour, called Squidward Tentacles lives in a moai. SpongeBob's best friend is a pink starfish named Patrick Star.

Bob is a smart, witty sponge who works at the Krusty Krab fast food restaurant.  Squidward Tentacles also works at Krusty Krabs, is mean, dull and hates SpongeBob .  Patrick Star is not terribly bright but SpongeBob likes him, as he usually gets involved in Bob’s crazy plans..

The show appeals to adults as much as children, and shows life under the sea mimic in life above the surface.  Like the Simpsons there have been many guest stars on SpongeBob Squarepants, including David Bowie, David Hasselhof, Ernest Borgnine, Mark Hamill and rock bands Motorhead and Twisted Sister.
