The Scooby Doo cartoon series has been popular since it was first shown in 1969. It features the adventures of Mystery Inc., a group of four teenagers, Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and their Dog Scooby Doo. Fred is the leader and the sensible one of the group. Daphne is pretty and vain. Velma is clever and studious, while Shaggy is a hippy who mostly likes eating. Scooby, like Shaggy takes every opportunity to eat. The team is usually called in to solve mysteries involving ghosts, ghouls and other supernatural activity, however the creatures always turn out to be fake ghosts, generally some businessman wanting to scare residents into selling land or property cheap, or perhaps someone wanting to falsely claim an inheritance. Each episode concluded with the villain being taken away by the police and uttering the immortal words ‘And I would've got away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!’ In later series the team were joined by Scooby doo’s annoying nephew Scrappy Doo, who was usually more of a hindrance than a help. Apart from the TV shows, Scooby Doo has appeared in two live action movies starring Freddy Prinze Jr. , Sarah Michelle Geller and Rowan Atkinson, with Scooby appearing as a CGI animation.
