Dora The Explorer is a popular preschool TV show which is shown all over the world.  Dora is a little girl who sets out in each episode to have an adventure, aided by her monkey, Boots.  Boots is Dora’s best friend. The other character which appear in every episode of Dora The Explorer is Swiper, a wily fox who is always swiping things off Dora. 

The main feature of the show is that Dora speaks in both English and Spanish, so that children can pick up some words of Spanish.  She also often talks directly to the television audience and asks the children watching to help with her quest.

Dora is aided in her quests by her Backpack, which Tardis-like, can contain anything she may need to complete her adventure, no matter how large.  She is also helped by her map, which shows her where she needs to go.

Dora, as well as appearing on TV has appeared on DVDs, in books and all manner of merchandising.  The show is shown in many countries; however it is usually dubbed into the local language, with English being the secondary language which Dora speaks.
